HOUSE
115 Main Street has existed in its present exterior configuration since 1917. Dr. and Mrs. Lawrason Brown built an office with side entrance and kitchen on the first floor left. The first floor right had drawing and dining rooms and a pantry that connected to the kitchen. There were two apartments on the second floor, each with a sitting room, bedroom and sleeping porch. The third floor was servants quarters. Bathrooms were located in between floors. The house was heated with a coal-burning furnace , lighted at one time with gas, and has four coal fireplaces. A doctor’s laboratory was in the basement. The architecture is a mixture of Colonial and Federal styles. In 1957, John and Evelyn Morgan bought the building and made four apartments. In 2003, the house was sold and the first floor left made into a law office. Otherwise, the Morgan renovations remain intact. E-mail Paul Herrmann: pauljosephherrmann@yahoo.com |
